Popcorn
Like all varieties of corn, popcorn is native to the Americas. It was an important part of the Aztec diet, and was also used in ceremonial headdresses, necklaces and ornaments. The oldest popcorn ears found to date were discovered in 1948 in a bat cave in west central New Mexico. The tiny ears were 4,000 years old. Popcorn remains an American dietary institution. And that's a good thing, because it is an economical, wholesome whole grain food high in fiber, complex carbohydrates and protein!
